Our friendly family owned gîte is situated on 3000 m2 of mature flower gardens, fruit trees and lawns with a wide variety of wildlife and visiting birds in the heart of the stunning Seven Valleys region of Hauts de France, a mere stone’s throw from the glorious Côte d’Opale.
Our centrally heated 2 bedroom gîte sleeps 4 comfortably and is available to rent year round. It is as warm and cosy in the winter as it is cool and breezy in the summer. The guest accommodation is ideal for families and friends wishing to explore the region, or for those seeking to buy a house and looking for a base to call home while you search for your dream home in France.
The generous light and airy open plan living room and newly installed kitchen (all new for 2019) allow for plenty of space to stretch out and relax beneath the historic 200 year old timbers. The bedrooms are cosy and comfortable with freshly pressed sheets and duvet covers.
Outside the gîte in the private courtyard where birds peck at feeders and our chickens scratch about is a large wooden table to enjoy breakfast and coffee in the morning sunlight shaded by a handsome walnut tree.
To the rear of the gîte you will discover the large westerly facing private gîte garden. With plenty of outdoor furniture it is perfect for relaxing and enjoying long days and evenings filled with birdsong and good cheer. Flowers and trees abound in the mature garden where peace and tranquility transport you to a different place whether soaking up the sun or dozing in dappled shade.
For children and adults alike there is the games barn, the ‘salle de jeux,’ an 80 m2 barn where they can play to their heart’s content with table tennis, trampolines, a gym mat, climbing rope, billiards, a boxing bag and many other games to keep them amused for hours on end should they grow tired of exploring the gardens, swinging on the swings, playing boules in the courtyard or football with children from the village on the green across the road. The games barn is not heated in winter however we find most guests keep themselves amply warm playing with the many activities available to them.
And for those willing to help out, we actively encourage children to help with collecting eggs and feeding our chickens who can often be found scratching contentedly around the grounds. And if you’re feeling really adventurous, a nearby goat farm provides lessons in how to make bread and cheese and will teach you how to milk goats.
For walkers and cyclists, there are countless long hikes and rides along tracks and trails winding through lush green valleys and ancient woodlands. We have a selection of bicycles available at the gîtes and there is secure storage in one of our outbuildings should you prefer to bring your own bicycles.
And if the rolling countryside and stunning sandy beaches of the nearby Cote d’Opale are not enough to keep you and your family entertained, there are a host of nearby attractions, activities, parks and historic sites to explore. Hire a canoe and paddle the crystal clear waters of the Canche river or head to Aqualud water park in Le Touquet. There are roller coaster rides and log flumes at Bagatelle Amusement Park in Berck and for younger children the fun of Dennly’s Theme Park in Dennebroeucq. For the more adventurous there are zip-lines and high rope walks through the trees at Opalaventure at Saint Cecile and Arbre & Avebture at Quend Plage. And in Boulogne not only is there the ancient citadel to explore, you can also find one of the best aquariums in Europe at Nausicaa. For history buffs there are countless battlefields and memorials from Roman times through the Middles Ages to World War I and II. If you’re lucky you might spot seals on nearby beaches or discover a rare bird migrating through the marshes at the nature Reserve of the Baie Somme.
With a population of just 125, the quiet rural town of Saint Denoeux and it’s church, declared a ‘monument historique’ is the perfect place for quiet, relaxing holidays or short breaks. History abounds in nearby towns and cities hosting bustling markets, attractions, wonderful restaurants and some fine wine cellars for collectors to browse.
We are 7 km from nearby Beaurainville with a large supermarket, train station, butcher, bakery and restaurants. The ancient citadel town of Montreuil Sur Mer is 12 km away with a wider selection of supermarkets, bakers, restaurants and shops. The beautiful beaches of the Côte d'Opale and luxury shops, restaurants and casinos in Le Touquet Paris Plage (home of French President Emmanuel Macron) are a mere half hour drive from the house.
You can reach Boulogne Sur Mer in ½ hour, EuroTunnel and Calais in 1 hour on the nearby A16. Paris is a 2 hour drive, Antwerp 3 hours and The Hague is 4½ hours away
