Ogeu-les-Bains is an attractive village, famous as the source of Ogeu water - the mineral water of the Pyrenees. From the house it is a ten-minute walk (or 3-minute cycle ride) to the local supermarket, which sells all essentials and is also a very good baker's. The village also has a chemist, post office, cafe/bar, and a train station with regular trains to Pau or Oloron Sainte Marie, a lovely town ten minutes away by car, which has plenty of supermarkets, other shops and restaurants.
There are some beautiful walks around Ogeu and it is also an ideal base for exploring the Parc National des Pyrenees and the magnificent Vallee d'Aspe and Vallee d'Ossau. There are beautiful rivers locally as well. The picturesque Basque area is also close by. Gourette, the local ski resort, is a 40-minute drive away and is a first-rate resort for both the beginner and the expert. Rarely crowded, it is much better value than most Alpine ski resorts. Spain is about an hour away and makes a very good day trip.
Getting to the house
The quickest way of getting to Ogeu from the UK is by air from London Stansted, London Gatwick, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester or Dublin flying to Biarritz, Tarbes, Toulouse or Bordeaux. Worth checking out Ryanair and Easyjet. Flight times are usually about 1 hour 30 mins. Car hire is available from all these airports.
Ogeu has its own train station and it is possible to travel to the house by train. You could, for instance, take the TGV to Pau and then catch a train directly from there to Ogeu. The house is about 1 kilometre from the house.
French motorways are excellent if you want to bring your own car. Some of our guests have used the ferry crossing to Santander or Bilbao (from Portsmouth or Plymouth) which are approximately 3 or 4 hours' drive from Ogeu.
