Simple Provencal house to rent in Vaucluse, Provence - The hamlet of Croagnes
Simple Provencal house situated in the Place de Croagnes, on a spur on the north side of the Luberon valley, looking south towards the Luberon mountains. The hamlet consists of eight houses and a church. The church is at the front of the spur from where there is an enormous panoramic view of the valley. From the bedroom window one can watch the sunrise over the Plateau d'Albion. Outside, across the way, there are steps down to the garden, which consists of two terraces, sheltered from the village square and the Mistral, by a wall and trees.
Set in peaceful hilltop hamlet, surrounded by vines, olive trees and orchards, with spectacular views over the Luberon Valley. 30 miles east of Avignon, 60 miles north of Marseilles. Car essential, parking available outside house.
Accommodation:
The house is fully equipped. The bed is a 4’6” double bed – firm interior sprung mattress on a wooden base. There is a duvet, rather too hot for summer months, 4 pillows (English size), a large blanket and two rugs.
All bed linen, towels and tea towels are provided.
In the kitchen there is a fridge, a small separate freezer, a cooker, a small English, electric one with two hot plates, a grill and an oven, a separate microwave and all the necessary equipment.
The bathroom is a wet room with a shower, wash hand basin and lavatory. Water is heated by an electric water heater.
There is a dining room/sitting room with a wide staircase leading to upstairs where there is a very large, light, sitting room/bedroom. All the windows have shutters and mosquito nets.
The floors are tiled and the house is very easy to live in and extremely easy to clean.
Outside: secluded terraced garden, protected from the wind, equipped with table, chairs and two loungers.
Unspoilt small town of St Saturnin les Apt 5 minutes drive, two bakers, small supermarket, Post Office, several restaurants and other shops. Market on Tuesday am.
The colourful market town of Apt, 10 minutes drive, centre of the glacier fruit industry, several supermarkets, banks, lots of shops and restaurants. Big popular market every Saturday am.
The area is full of beautiful views and unspoilt countryside, where you can walk into the maquis through olive groves and cherry orchards. There are many fortified, medieval, stone built hill top towns to explore and during July and August a wonderful municipal swimming pool at St Saturnin les Apt with a stunning view across the valley to the Luberon Mountains. Drive to Avignon 40 mins, Marseilles 75mins, Aix-en-Provence 60mins, the Camargue 90 mins. Nearest airport Marseilles by Easyjet cheap, or by train to Avignon TGV. Eurostar direct from St Pancras, London to Avignon every Saturday during the summer. Leaves London 07.15, arrives Avignon 14.30.
