Converted Barn in Tourtouse, Ariege, Midi Pyrenees. Le Petit Columbage is situated in a small hamlet with beautiful views across the Valley.
A tastefully refurbished barn with exposed beams and contemporary airy interior. Set in beautiful countryside, Le Petit Columbage comprises an open plan kitchen/living area with double French windows leading to an upstairs terrace, which overlooks the valley and extensive gardens with its 11x5m swimming pool (sliding cover kept water 26 -30'C last summer). Neighbours the owner's farmhouse on the edge of the picturesque hamlet of Tourtouse - famous for its 13th century donjon, beautiful old church and traditional restaurant/bar (delicious menu). The local village of Ste Croix Volvestre boasts a swimming/fishing lake with beach, tennis courts and large lawned play area. The region is renowned for its breathtaking scenery, panoramic views of the Pyrenees and tranquillity. Local activities include walking, cycling, horse riding, climbing, canoeing & skiing. Shopping and bustling markets in St Girons or Cazeres (20 mins). Toulouse (1 hr). Carcasonne, Andorra and the Med (2 hrs).
What makes this barn unique:
The gite has two sunny terraces with a beautiful sweeping view across the valley - perfect for wildlife spotting (bring your binoculars!) We have had deer in the garden including two newly born fawns and a huge variety of birds and barn owls nesting in our barn.
The restaurant in the village is an easy five minute walk away and is renowned locally for its traditional Ariege fare. The village itself has a 12th century donjon and church and the remains of the 15th century palace of Bishop Bruno of St.Lizier. The open air theatre within the grounds of the palace is open for concerts.
We have had so much fun meeting our wonderful guests over the last ten years and are looking forward to meeting many more.
