La Maison d'Amis is a comfortable and private cottage with swimming pool situated on an estate which is one of the most tranquil in the Dordogne, offering walks in the woods on the estate and fishing.
The Domaine in its present form has been here since at least 1711, and acts as the perfect base for exploring the many attractions of the area. It's within easy reach of the many good restaurants and shops in Brantome, Nontron and Perigueux.
It was most likely the “Ferme Domaniale” (The Manor Farm) to Chateau Gaillard, which used to stand up on the hill. The Chateau itself was reputedly a Crusader Castle, later owned by the Knights Templar, and legend has it that there are many Crusader and Knights Graves up on the hill. La Maison d'Amis was originally the “Chai”- wine press from when the area was a large wine producing area until the vines were wiped out by disease in the late 19th Century.
The lake reputedly dates back to Roman Times, and is lined in stone.Le Domaine is run as sustainably as possible, without chemicals, artificial fertilizers or systemic weedkillers.
