Saint Tropez is situated in the Var department of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Saint Tropez was an unassuming little fishing village until the beginning of the twentieth century. Historically a commercial port, it is now also a base for many sailing regattas. Each year, in early October, a regatta is held in the bay (Les Voiles de St. Tropez). This is a draw for stunning traditional wooden yachts, some up to 50 metres in length.

Saint Tropez also lures those in search of a little Provencal authenticity – don’t miss the weekly market in the main square. The climate is Mediterranean and the city enjoys 12 hours of sunshine per day during summer. St Tropez’s summers are long and warm, with summer daytime temperatures regularly hitting 30°C. Temperatures remain high from June to September; a Mediterranean breeze keeps summer evenings comfortably cool. Temperatures drop below 10°C for only three months of the year (December to February). The spring and autumn are also warm.

Most visitors arriving by air use Marseille Provence International or Nice airport – both have scheduled and charter flights arriving from the UK. There is a private airstrip in St Tropez. The A8 motorway provides fast and safe access to St Tropez. Exit at Cannet des Maures and follow the D558 for about 40kms to the town. Trains reach as far as St Rafael – which is 38kms away from St Tropez.
