Sorède is a commune in the Pyrénées-Orientales department in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France. Sorede, known locally as ‘ la perle des Albères’ is located in a green and peaceful Pyrenees area, near the beaches of the Mediterranean Sea, at the feet of the Alberes mountain range. The often snow capped sacred mountain of the Catalans ‘Le Canigou’ part of the Pyrenees, can be seen in the distance. Yet look in the opposite direction & you will see the sparkling turquoise coast of the Mediterranean sea – perfect contrasts when you rent a holiday home in Sorede!
Sorède is an authentic, friendly typically Catalan village – yet when you stay a holiday rental villa in Sorede, France you’ll immediately notice it has remained typically French. Sorède has a small twice weekly market where you can watch the action with a cup of coffee from the tapas bar.
Tennis courts, boules, & a swimming pool are also located in the village centre – there’s plenty to do when you rent Sorede self-catering accommodation. The Ranch des Albères, offering horse riding, is found on the outskirts the village. The village square is lovely – there are often music evenings and Sardane dancing, especially in summer.
The 'Valee des Tortues', 5 minutes drive from Sorède, is a tortoise park - there are tortoises of all shapes & sizes. From Sorède itself there is a stunning walk up to Notre Dame du Château (see below for more details) with beautiful wild flowers in spring & views as far as the eye can see.
Other sites in the village include the horse whip making workshop which is open to the public. Since the 13th century, whips have been made from the local celtis tree. Also worth a visit is 'le Musee de L’Olivette' which gives you a tour by little train. There is the main church "St Assiscle et Ste Victoire", with 17th century Baroque sculptures. Notre-Dame du Château is an 18th century sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin Mary in the mountains, and the ruins of the castle of Ultrera, dating from the early Middle Ages.
Winter: it can go below freezing at night occasionally, but temperatures can often climb up to around 15°C by lunchtime and it’s often possible to eat outside in the sun. In the summer there is guaranteed sun, very little rain and warm Mediterranean seas!

The nearest main train station is at Perpignan. To reach Paris via TGV is 5 hours. The motorway A9 connects Perpignan with Barcelona and Montpellier.
