Morzine, France

Self Catering Morzine Holiday Rental Chalets and Apartments

Morzine is a traditional market town in the heart of the Portes du Soleil ski network, in the Haute Savoie department in the Rhone-Alpes region. Described as “warm and relaxing” it's the kind of modern ski resort that's really well organised but not overwhelmingly chaotic.  Some seasoned skiers refer to it as “a gem that you shouldn't tell people about....too good to share!"

If you choose ski holiday accommodation to rent in Morzine, you're choosing a modern ski resort, with 50 km of slopes starting from the centre of the town and if you buy a Portes du Soleil ski pass then you ski in both the French and Swiss Alps with one pass from Morzine!

You can easily be out on to the slopes direct from the village, but if you take the opposite side to the main runs, you will be lead directly to the higher slopes of Avoriaz and the Portes du Soleil network. Overall, there are 248 pistes with enough skiing for all levels, 2 blacks, 100 reds, 106 blues, 34 green and all approaches to skiing from fun, to sport to family enjoyment.

Plus, like other Alpine resorts, there's a wide variety of other winter activities, such as snow-shoe treks, paragliding, night sledging, snow-scooter rides, ice-diving, ice-climbing, hot-air balloons and helicopter rides - much to keep any holiday-maker satisfied when renting a holiday chalet or apartment in Morzine, Haute Savoie.

As much as Morzine is a winter sports paradise, the location can make a stunningly picturesque Summer vacation too. Hiking, horse riding and mountain biking are a fantastic way to enjoy the mountains.

Apres-ski is of course half the fun when you choose a Morzine holiday home for your break in France. Morzine is considered “low key and relaxed”, it's no jet set town crammed with sports cars or Royals! However, there's plenty of choice for all age groups and nearby Avoriaz has bars open past midnight.

Weather wise, most precipitation in Morzine is snow and it's generally regarded as reliably “good snow” despite being 1000m which is lower than the Three Valleys. In summer, the climate is generally hot and sunny in the lower valleys and pleasantly cool higher up. In the winter, it can sometimes by chillier down in Morzine and sunnier up in the mountains due to the bands of high pressure causing wind inversions.

Travelling to your Morzine holiday rental property is just 75 minutes from Geneva airport and according to AA Route Finder the 600kms journey from Paris will take you just under 6 hours. Of course a 4 x 4 or certainly winter tyres are recommended if travelling in Winter!
