The town of Duras is a located in the north-eastern part of the Lot-et-Garonne department which is found in the Aquitaine region in south-western France. The town, from which the famous French author Marguerite Duras took her surname, is traversed by the Dropt river.
Duras was originally built as a walled town and founded by the English during the 100 Years War. Originally built as a defensive castle in the early 14th century, the castle was transformed in the 17th century into a residential castle.
