Argentière is located near the head of the valley of Chamonix approximately 7km from Chamonix. The village also lies on the route of the incredibly scenic Mont Blanc Express railroad. The journey is an 8- to 12-hour drive (depending on conditions) from Calais. Eurostar offers services from London Waterloo to Paris and Saint Gervais les Bains; it also offers a direct service to Bourge St Maurice and Aime La Plange on Fridays and Saturdays (overnighter), taking about 10 hours. From these destinations, local SNCF (French Rail) trains go to the Chamonix Valley. Argentière can be easily reached from Geneva Airport (98kms), Lyon (228kms). From UK airports the following airlines serve Lyon – Air France, bmi, British Airways, easyJet and Aer Lingus.
Temperatures go well below zero degrees during the winter period – there is lots of powdery snow though! Rainfall is frequent in summer months, but also expect lots of sunshine, making conditions ideal for hikers.
