When you arrive at La Residence, you can't help but be excited when those huge gates swing open and you make your way up the drive. Will the house be everything that was promised?
It was.
When I moved to Australia last year, I wanted to find the perfect place to host friends and family in the UK one year on. Somewhere we could relax, dine together and that the kids could play. This is exactly what La Residence offers.
The house is equipped with everything you could need, (with the exception of a garlic crusher and zester...I'm a foodie!). It's in a great location for you to explore surrounding villages and sites, and you have a cute fruit and vegetable market at the end of the road, as well as the well stocked Carrefour. So large, it should be classed a village in itself.
The bedrooms are well decorated, large and there are enough bathrooms to not warrant arguments. There are 4 double rooms, with the single room adjoining off of one of the doubles. This works well for a family with children. One of the doubles is situated in an annex, with a terrace separating it from the main house, and has its own bathroom. Perfect for anyone who doesn't want to be woken by little feet (and big voices) early in the morning.
The lounge area was hardly used, due to the glorious weather, but great for watching family films in the evenings. The house is full of books and some English DVDs too, as well as family games including a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle that had the entire family adding a piece here and there, as well as petanque and badminton, which we played on the lawn.
Dining outside for breakfast, lunch and dinner was easy. We did have to bring chairs outside from inside, but the table was plenty large enough for 10 people. The olive grove made a great setting for a picnic too!
Aix en Provence nearby (20 min by car) is pretty Provence personified, while I recommend a drive to Les Gorges Du Verdon for a family day of fun, and of course to the Cote D'Azur. It's all easily in reach if you hire a car. And you really will need to hire a car.
The roads around the villa offered good running terrain, while the local village of Les Milles (5 mins by car/20 min walk) has great patisseries for fresh croissants and bread, as well as a lovely little bar where you can sit in the square while they bring you cold drinks from across the road.
The caretakers live onsite, connected to the villa, but largely keep to themselves, and the cleaners are wonderful.

Superb holiday location, good for all of the family, very relaxing and peaceful, but easy access to markets, places of interest and activities. We enjoyed the beautiful homely, well equipped house and spacious garden with fun swimming pool- would definitely recommend

My husband and I and two other couples stayed here this past June for a week. This was our honeymoon as we couldnt take a trip last year when we were married. Our stay here was so much better than anything we could have expected. We were so impressed with the home upon arrival. I don't think the photos they have truly do it justice. The house is a bit larger than we anticipated and perfectly taken care of. I am a bit of a neat freak so this definitely suited my tatste. My favorite part of the house of course was the outdoor area and the pool, but the kitchen and the outdoor balcony were close seconds. The house is totally private you can hear the birds chirping in the morning, but also conveniently located to anything that you would need to fill up the fridge on your stay. We were so close to Aix and Marseille. One couple even took a day trip to St. Tropez. Be sure to add Cassis to the list of places you visit as it is absolutely stunning. Andrew was very professional and super quick and helpful with all of my inquiries. the housekepers have their own seperate home and can help with any recommendations of things to visit. The best recommendation they gave was to visit the Cahteau Pioline which is in town and gorgeous! We plan to go back either this year or the next with our immediate family. We couldnt have asked for a better trip and place to stay for our first visit in the South of France.

La Residence is even better than the pictures. The location is perfect for touring Provence, an hour from almost everywhere. Aix is 10 minutes. You will need a car. The property is secluded and picturesque. The home is furnished very well and the caretakers are there to help but not intrusive. If you're lucky you'll get to see the wild pigs that cross the street nearby. Highest recommendation!
