We stayed in Belclaire with our two dogs for two weeks and had a lovely time. The gite is great, well equipped and there is plenty of space both inside and out. The shared pool was a welcome relief from the sunshine and never got busy as there are a maximum of three gites sharing it. Andrew, Jo and Jasmine (plus Rufus an Carmen) make you feel very welcome from the off.
There are plenty of walks which can be taken right from the door step which is great especially if you have dogs - we headed out in the early morning and late evening to avoid the heat!
There is plenty to do in the surrounding area including visiting Mirepoix, Carcassonne, Bram and Lac Mont Bel the latter being a large lake which you can walk around or paddle across.
The canals at Bram and Castel Naudary are accessible and shaded for another nice walk. And there is a seafood restaurant on the Canal in Bram which is definitely recommended.
Good wine can be purchased from Domaine Le Fort en-route to Carcassonne - they also have a stall at the market in Mirepoix.
If you happen to be there on Bastille Day then make sure you travel to Carcassonne for he amazing fireworks around 1030pm.
A few restaurant recommendations in Mirepoix:
Chez Paps - Best cassoulet we tasted
Restaurant Llobet - Great steak and whole baked fish
Le Commerce - simple tasty french food and menu in a lovely courtyard garden
Cafe Castignolles - not so good with average at best food!
We had a great two weeks and would recommend to anyone.
Thanks
Heather and James
