I had an enjoyable stay in St Chinian, in a village house located in a quiet street overlooking the river Vernazobres.
With several bars and restaurants to choose from, a supermarket/petrol station on the outskirts of the village, local shop, twice weekly market, butchers, post office, newsagent and local wine shops .......there is everything you need with these amenities just a short stroll from the house.
A boulangerie at the end of the street was extremely convenient for the daily croissant or pain au chocolat fix (!), a small shop supplying a variety of breads, sweet and savoury pastries and a warm welcome.
The house was a great base from which to explore the beautiful surrounding areas, including Beziers, Pezenas, Narbonne, the canal du midi and many more stunning locations along the way. The beaches and national park all within an easy drive from the village, I would certainly recommend taking the country routes through the hills to benefit from the wanderful views and authentic French villages along the way.
The house in St Chinian was very well equipped with all the home comforts you would probably want and expect from a holiday home (dishwasher, washing machine, fantastic shower etc) but yet still retaining the charm of an older French property.
During the cooler nights the house is equipped with electric heaters and for those warmer days a partly covered terrace for al fresco dinining. A picnic table and chairs are even provided so you can sit out next to the river in front of the house. There is a large utility area on the ground floor for washing/drying and storing bags/bikes or such like. A bicycle shop is also conveniently located at the end of the street which would certainly benefit those on a cycling holiday.
The house was as described in the rental brief, very clean, comfortable and it has been very well thought out in terms of what you would need for a comfortable stay, plenty of good quality crockery, cutlery, coffee machine, cooking utensils and table ware, (all matching) and even down to the shopping bags and picnic basket! Parking is outside the house and spaces are plentiful.
I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this charming village house in St Chinian, I just hope that it will be free to accommodate me again on a return visit to the Languedoc region.
Thank you Kirsten for your warm welcome, ease of booking and directions, hope to see you again soon.
