Perfect tranquility deep in the Perigord Vert with all mod-cons!
Although we are very familiar with this area over many years La Maison d'Amis was a delightful discovery set in a deep, rural area of the Perigord Vert. The charming market town of Brantome is barely 20 mins by car and there are beautiful chateaux and many ancient villages nearby. A car is very necessary.

The route was very clearly defined and our extremely friendly hosts, Richard and David, not to mention Freddy the dog, were there to welcome us in on a wet afternoon. The accommodation was excellent with everything required for our comfort supplied, including logs for the wood burning stove. The only very minor items we found to be missing were a potato peeler and bottle opener. Plentiful suppy of sharp knives sorted the former. The latter was coped with easily by my husband's Swiss Army Penknife! An amazing 'Welcome' package left in the large family fridge plus home baked bread gave us an excellent kick start!

We only used the main bedroom and ensuite shower, which were very comfortable and clean. The bed was extremely comfortable and there was masses of wardrobe and drawer space. Due to inclement weather during our 7 day stay we were glad of the Sky + WiFi amenities which gave us access to Brit programmes and enabled us to listen to Radio 4. Sadly, we were unable to use the pool or the lake due to the weather conditions but did check them out visually and it all looked superb. The grounds are very extensive so ensure you take your walking boots!

Our only comment for any improvement would be a 'stepping-stone' pathway across the grassed area from where the car is parked to the front enrance of the Gite. This would facilitate carrying luggage/shopping in when the ground is wet. Would also afford more privacy to the occupants of the manor house as currently the cobbled walkway is directly in front of their ground floor windows.

We would certainly use this Gite again and have no hesitation in giving it maximum scores. Many thanks Richard, David and Freddy!
