We had a great week at Kermainguy. The setting is very peaceful and private and there is a very large, semi-wild garden full of birds and butterflies.. The house is comfortable and well-equipped and everything worked perfectly. We also very much appreciated the comfortable beds and the books, games and local maps provided, including the reference books on flowers, butterflies and wildlife.
The owner was extremely helpful and prompt in replying to enquiries and provided lots of useful information about the area.
One of the best local amenities is the Chateau la Roche Jagu, which is only a short walk away along mostly green lanes; it has extensive and varied gardens and stupendous views over a tidal river. The food at the Chateau café looked wonderful, but it's worth knowing that you have to book meals in advance because they use fresh local produce and can only cater for limited numbers.
We also loved the beach at Brehec and the Sept Iles boat trip. If you like birds the latter is a must - the sight (and sound) of 36,000 gannets on one rocky island made our week. Treguier is also well worth a visit for its charming square and cathedral and some interesting shops; and we enjoyed the evening boat trip round the "lavoirs" (laundry-houses) on the river at Pontrieux.
The house would be good for families with younger or older children or for a small group of friends. There's loads to do in the area and we could have spent another two weeks there very happily.
