This beautiful Provencal villa is situated in the heart of the Provence, just outside the medieval village of Chateaudouble (twin towers) and about 30 minutes from the Cote d'Azur beaches. The spectacular unspoilt views look straight across the Gorge de Chateaudouble  and the hills far beyond. The house has 3/4 acre of terraces with olive and fig trees. Take a dip in the heated pool or just relax in the hammock and listen to the chirping of the crickets.

This beautifully furbished Provencal house sleeps 8 persons in 4 bedrooms with room for babies too.

Chateaudouble village (a "village Fleuri") is a short stroll away where you will find 2 restaurants both with terraces overlooking the magnificent gorge and a bar where they do BBQ's in the height of the summer. There is also a boulangerie, get there early for the fresh croissants and baguettes, a post office, the village Marie, little village school, creche, Tourist Information Centre and if you are lucky a "Pizza van"!

If relaxing by the pool is not enough for you, there are many sites and villages to visit most of which are all within a 30 minute drive. To name a few; Gorge du Verdon, Lac St Croix, Bargemon, Tourtour, Figaniere, Frejus, Le Castellet, Grotte de Saint Cezaiare or just the Chateaudouble cheese farm at the bottom of the village. If you wanted to go a bit further afield but still within an hour, avoid the traffic and catch the ferry to St Tropez, Cannes, Antibes, Monaco and the island of Porquerolles is a hidden gem.

There are of course many vineyards to visit and also many cycle routes in the area (I wouldn't recommend combining the two!) and you can hire bikes in many villages.

As well as the restaurants in the village there are some fantastic little restaurants dotted around. Our favourite is lunch at La Terrace in Barjemon watching the world go by and another in Tourtour with a hidden terrace at the back overlooking the view of the hills.

Local Attractions

Châteaudouble is located north of Draguignan on a redoubtable rocky spur overlooking a series of fantastic gorges and valleys cutting through the thickly forested hills. The Gorges de la Nartuby and the Gorges de Châteaudouble are formed by the Nartuby and Ampus rivers from the northeast and northwest that join together just south of Châteaudouble.

The village clings to the rocky cliffs, with a pair of towers above: one in ruins but the other still standing lookout. The cemetery is also at the top, with an eagle's view the the surrounding hills and valleys. Above the village at the peak on the other side is a playground in the trees and a small football pitch with wooden goals, in a field that overlooks the world. This would be a great place for looking at the stars at night.

The village houses, shops and restaurants clustered so tightly together are bright and clean and well cared for. A beautiful old church in the centre of the village has doorway arches made from a natural, stratified rock that contrasts well with the iron-studded wooden door. One village speciality is the local honey.
