Holiday house in south west France, Ariege, in the foothills of the French Pyrenees.
Le Moulin de la Materette is a beautifully converted old water Mill that nestles beside 600 metres of trout river – The Arize . It occupies 11 acres of private grounds. It has 7 ensuite double rooms and can accommodate 15 guests. Next to the Moulin is an attractive timber framed Grange that has a further 4 en suite double rooms, a large studio, a laundry and workshops. The moulin has superb facilities, including a large heated swimming pool (13m x 6m ). The grounds include a mixture of formal lawns, flower and herb beds, orchards and woodland, including a wooded island walk that leads up to a cascade with a beach and the opportunity for 100 metres of wild swimming above the weir.
It is the ideal location for large extended family holidays, Cycling holidays in the Pyrenees, Golfing Holidays, Painting holidays, Walking Holidays, somewhere for large groups of friends to celebrate special anniversaries, weddings and Corporate events. We have a well equiped kitchen and 15 years experience of providing delicious meals for our residential guests, should you prefer the occasional rest from the kitchen chores. We have seating inside and outside for 24 diners (This can be increased to 40 plus for weddings etc.)
The grounds of the Moulin are a haven for wild life. Amongst the birds that frequent the Moulin grounds are Golden Oriels, Kingfishers, Herons, Dippers, Nuthatches, Tree Creepers, Kites, Green, Black and greater spotted woodpeckers, Buzzards, Eagles and many of the other more common species. The gardens and grounds are laid out to encourage wild life with plenty of natural flower beds.
The location of the Moulin is ideal for many of the tourist attractions, Historic Cathar Castles, Carcassonne, Toulouse & Mirepoix, many attractions for children of all ages, but undoubtedly the biggest attraction is the spectacular scenery. We are located, arguably in the most beautiful part of France.
Flexibility of booking. The Moulin and Grange are particularly suitable for groups that might expand in numbers as the holiday approachs. We never book the Grange separately to the Moulin. So if you know you are definitely 12 – 15, but anticipate you could need accommodation for an extra family of 4 – 8. Then you could reserve the Moulin initially, then later, up to a week before your holiday you could increase the booking to include the Grange or even part of the Grange
