For luxury self catering holiday cottage Brittany look no further than our Hayloft cottage. We like to refer to the Hayloft as a ‘studio’ gîte as it is essentially an open plan holiday cottage. Remember though that size isn’t everything and in line with our ethos at Kergudon, Hayloft ticks all the boxes as a luxury self-catering holiday cottage Brittany. 

The principal building at Kergudon was constructed in 1640 as a weavers house and is very typical of others in the region.  Over the centuries the property has been many things including a presbytery and a farm. The Hayloft Gîte is one of the original farm buildings and retains much of its historic character.

Hayloft is the perfect cosy cottage for a couple and has been furnished with all the features and fittings that our guests have come to expect at Kergudon.

Situated in the small village of Saint Cadou, in the heart of the Monts d’Arrée we are centrally located in Finistère and so within easy reach of everything this fabulous part of the country has to offer.

Just 20 minutes north of Kergudon you will find the beautiful town of Morlaix with its magnificent viaduct and lovely town centre and weekly market then a further 20 minutes north you’ll find Roscoff with its magnificent coastline, architecture and fabulous restaurants and fruits de mer.

To the West you will find Brest and the Crozon peninsular both just 30-40 minutes away with dramatic cliffs and coves, long beaches and beautiful walks. To the south, the lovely town of Locronan; the city of Quimper and pretty towns such as Ile Tudy which are a delight to explore and only a short distance from Kergudon.

On your doorstep is the stunning Lac Du Drennec for picturesque walks, swimming, picnics and water sports. The Monts d’Arrée and the Parc Naturel d’Armorique are filled with ancient monuments, beautiful walks, villages and towns and a wealth of culture and festivals.

As you enter the gate at the Hayloft you will walk through the sunny breakfast terrace to the front of the cottage. The Hayloft has large glass doors which can open fully to bathe the cottage in light and fresh country air.

The main open-plan living space of Hayloft is light and airy with a fully fitted kitchen with a fridge and gas oven.  A comfy sofa for two and a dining table and chairs so that you can enjoy the wonderful local produce for a romantic supper. The main living space also has a television with a DVD player and both French and English television channels. Complimentary Wi-Fi is also provided. For winter and autumn breaks baskets of firewood are provided as the Hayloft has a lovely wood burning stove which makes the space fabulous cosy and the perfect space to ‘cocoon’.

A large blackout curtain divides the main living space with the bedroom area.  The deep mattress on the king-sized bed is dressed with Egyptian cotton linen sheets, soft duvet and luxurious pillows. A full-length mirror, large wardrobe and two speed hair dryer are also in the bedroom area. For weekly gîte rentals in Brittany we also provide luxurious towel bath robes, handmade, local, organic soaps from BE Cosmetics and cotton towels.

Off the bedroom area is a wonderfully luxurious bathroom with double wash basins, toilet and, to maintain the couples’ decadency, a double ended bath and over bath shower.

The Hayloft holiday cottage also benefits from 2 private terraces.  At the front is a terrace that captures the morning sun making it ideal for breakfast while, to the side is a space for lunch and the evening. On the terrace you will find a Webber BBQ and BBQ tools, sun loungers with soft cushions, garden table and chairs and a sun parasol. The private terraces access the hold orchard however, sadly most of the cidre apple trees have now gone but we have planted some beautiful flowering cherry trees, a large shrub bed and other interesting plants. The old orchard is mostly laid to lawn and is perfect for peaceful afternoons in the sunshine for a snooze, and maybe even an aperitif.  

All our guests at Kergudon can use the communal facilities which include a boot room (to borrow wellingtons for walking in the forest) with washing machine and tumble dryer; a fitness suite (one of the owners is a fully-qualified Personal Trainer so they can put you through your paces when you’re with us or draw up a personal exercise plan); mountain bikes to borrow to explore the area; petanque pitch and large family games room with a pool table, babyfoot and bar.  The games room has a projector so can be used as a cinema and reserved for a family film night.

Hayloft gîte is one of our pet friendly holiday cottages, perfect for bringing your paws abroad.  We will provide some dog towels, water bowl and blankets to protect our sofas.  

We will arrange for your Vet visit before you leave Kergudon if you are traveling straight back to the UK as it is mandatory to have a check-up, worming tablet and pet passport stamp. You can view details on the UK government website on taking your dog to France.  

Whilst we do not make an additional charge for dogs staying at Kergudon we do take a larger damage deposit of 350 EUR. 

Group and Large Family Holidays 
As Hayloft Gîte is perfect for a couple it has often been used by large families or groups who have also rented the Priory and/or Granary. We have welcomed several families who have travelled with grandparents who have preferred to use the Hayloft as it has no stairs and provides a ‘quieter’ place to sleep. The Priory and Granary are both large enough for everyone to eat and relax together as a group or family and the Hayloft provides a perfect personal space for when the family has ‘high energy moments’.
