Pontivy, just 30 minuets away straddles the river Blavet which runs from the hills of central Brittany down to the sea at Lorient. Canalised all the way and joined to the Nantes Brest canal, this was a major waterway and made Pontivy an important port. The old medieval town, with its pedestrian streets and open squares are pleasant to wander around and has some interesting shops and restaurants, as well as a weekly Monday market in the main street.
The lake, you can take advantage of the adjoining lake, accessible directly from our grounds for fishing of large common carp, large Pike, tench, perch and trout, bird watching, canoeing, or just relax feeding the ducks and enjoy the tranquil surrounding and the views, along with a child's play area. A buvett on the lake side is a must for English teas, coffee or something stronger, also ice lolleys from the kiddy's and juices. Exploring the surrounding countryside is a must, on foot or cycles, (we can also provide adult bikes).
Driving in Brittany, is a real pleasure with wonderfully quiet country roads which wind through beautiful tree lined valleys, picturesque towns and sleepy villages, giving the perfect opportunity to “explore” this fantastic area.
History interest, central Brittany has an abundance of historical and archaeological sites to satisfy the enthusiast. Why not take to the network of rural footpaths to discover the more hidden gems of Brittany's heritage and landscape. The incredible volume and diversity of wildlife and flora also provide the naturalist with lots to see.
For the more energetic, the wealth of lakes and rivers provide water activities such as fishing, sailing, canoeing, skiing, rowing, cruises and much more. There are superb golf courses, horse riding stables catering for beginners and experienced riders, many other sports activities and water sports at the Lake Guerledan just a 20 min drive away.
Coasts, on three sides, the choice of coastal locations to visit in Brittany is immense: St-Malo, St-Brieux and Roscoff in the north, Brest and Quimper to the west, and Lorient and Vannes on the south coast, plus much beauty and variety of scenery to enjoy en route. Holidaying in Central Brittany gives you a great range of places to visit and the tranquil setting of the Breton countryside to return to at the end of the day.
