Château de Détilly has a long history. The original medieval castle was built on the site of a Roman villa called Villa Destilliacus – hence the name Destilly (Détilly today) which was given to the castle, then to the neighboring hamlet.
The original castle had multiple owners over the centuries and was placed under the authority of the royal castle of Chinon.
In 1562, it was captured and burned by the Huguenots, who left only a few parts of the buildings and the 13th century chapel .
The current castle was built at the end of the Renaissance period, between 1590 and 1610, in a pure and classic style, in tuffeau, the traditional stone of the Loire Valley.
THE GUEST HOUSE:
The completely independent and air-conditioned guest house , located next to the orangery building and just behind the swimming pool, can be rented by the week (from Saturday afternoon to the following Saturday morning) for a maximum of 6 people.
The ground floor includes a large living room with a fully equipped open kitchen, which opens onto a large, very bright veranda, facing west, with a well-insulated roof.
In front of the veranda is a private garden, reserved for guests of the guest house and largely enclosed by hedges, with the giant trees of the park in the background.
On the first floor, under the slopes of the slate roof, there are 2 bright bedrooms for a maximum of 4 people: a master suite with independent living room and a long L-shaped room with 2 separate single beds, an office area and separate storage. The bathroom is shared and there is a separate toilet on each floor.
Although more simple and contemporary in style than the Château, the Maison d'amis benefits from all the services that one would expect in an establishment that aims to be luxurious.
Full reversible air conditioning guarantees optimal comfort whatever the weather.
Total area: approximately 65 m2 on the ground floor and 58 m2 on the first floor.
Beds: • a double (1.60 mx 1.90 m)
• two singles (0.95 mx 1.90 m)

Local Attractions
All our guests have free access to the park and gardens, which are entirely enclosed by high stone walls, or by fences and thick hedges.
Here you will find yourself in a haven of peace and tranquility, where you will lose track of time and place – although you are only a few minutes from the tourist bustle of Chinon or Bourgueil, and more generally from the beautiful Loire Valley, with its castles so different and all magnificent.
Our 12.5 x 6 meter heated swimming pool is accessible until the end of September, between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m., as is our 85 m2 pool house in the beautiful adjacent orangery, equipped with a toilet and a shower. We also provide quality towels and pool furniture.
Our hard tennis court is available upon prior reservation.
There is also a bocce ( Italian pétanque ) court and a folding ping-pong table in the orangery.
However, we do not provide equipment, so you will need to bring your own rackets, balls or boules.
Our 2.6 hectare park is completely enclosed, so you can explore the English gardens in complete privacy, with their many ancient and monumental trees, the fish pond with water lilies, Koi carp and frogs, the orchard extensive and diverse, the vegetable garden and quantity of flower varieties for (almost) all seasons.
The park is not limited to its natural beauties and sporting activities.
It also includes several medieval buildings or remains, often older than the current castle, which mainly dates back to 1610.
The oldest and best preserved is of course the Chapel to the north of the castle. The original chapel was dedicated to Our Lady of Mercy and Saint Mark in 1135, but the one you see, although in Romanesque style, dates from the 13th and 15th centuries , and its roof was probably replaced at the end of the 16th . century, at the time of the reconstruction of the castle.
It is no longer dedicated and is used for various events, meetings, concerts, etc. Unless there is something going on there, you can come in and sit there as you wish.
