Charming, fully restored Vendeen cottage, sleeping four,situated on the edge of a small village. Chez Marthe lies within 15/20 minutes drive of the Vendee’svast sandy, EC Blue Flag-award beaches, including the resort of La Tranche-sur-Mer.
The Cottage:
One bedroom with 2 single beds, door leading to second patio with garden furniture.
Double bedroom/lounge area with direct access to bathroom toilet. settee and chairs, TV ( English and French) CD?radio bluetooth. looking out onto south facing terrace and garden
Kitchen/dining room – well equipped kitchen with fridge, gas cooker, microwave etc. Wood burning stove for those chilly evenings out of season, also convector heaters.
Bathroom with shower, washbasin and WC.
Utility room with sink, storage space, washing machine, 2nd fridge and chest freezer (for all those ice creams and chilled drinks!).
Small private garden ( totaly secure for your furry friends) with sun loungers and parasol
Barbecue, rotary washing line, airer; various beach toys for children. Adult bikes available for cycling to the village for your croissants – or further……….
The cottage is at right-angles and is totally independent from our house - we are on site but out-of-sight! We are English but French speaking and very happy to help with any reservations, recommendations, translations etc, or anything you require. But equally, we respect your privacy.

A good selection of utensils, ovenware, dishes, glasses and bbq tools.
Local Attractions
Chez Marthe is situated within a small hamlet in the Vendeen countryside, perfect for walking and cycling. Just 5 minutes walk away is the lake with fishing and boating, and with many picnice areas around it’s shores.The village of St.Vincent-sur-Graon is just 2 minutes by car, with a church, boulangerie and 2 bars.
Within a 10 minuete drive is the Indian Forest adventure park, https://ofunpark.fr/, Also a fantastic water park O' Gliss, https://www.oglisspark.fr/
The larger village of Moutiers-les-Maufaits with it’s historic covered market is 5 minutes away and has banks, post office, supermarkets, bars, restaurants, chemist, a dentist, and an English speaking doctor.
The town of La Roche-sur-Yon is 15 minutes away and offers big hypermarkets and shops, plus a large indoor shopping mall.
Vast sandy beaches with the EC Blue-Flag award are 15/20 minutes by car, also the resort of La Tranche-sur-mer. Les Sables d’Olonne, famous for the start and finish of the Vendee Globe Solo round the world yacht race, is 30 minutes away offering a beautiful, sheltered, sandy beach, promenade, fishing port and quay side restaurants. The famous, beautiful, historic town of La Rochelle is 50 minutes away.
There are many local places of interest and the famous ‘son et lumiere’ of le Puy-du-Fou, and it’s daytime ‘Grand Parcours’ (theme park – a whole day of entertainment for children and adults),www.puydufou.com. Futuroscope, la Venise Verte and the Ile de Re are within easy reach.
This part of the coast – known as ‘La Cote de Lumiere’ – is famous for its long sunny days and it’s sunshine record second only to that of the South of France.
This is the heart of the Vendee’s wine-producing area, with a well sign posted wine route for visiting and tasting! There is a good selection of restaurants nearby, to suit all budgets. Possibly the best selection of seafood in France with nearby mussel and oyster farms where you can taste and buy direct.
There are several golf courses for all standards, with a 'Golf Formula' which is a pass for all the courses. Nesmy is just 10 minutes away, Bourgenay 15 minutes and les Sables d'Olonne 30 minutes.
Special Rental Conditions
To reserve the cottage, we require a cheque or bank transfer for £ 200, which will be held as a security deposit and returned within one week of your departure. The rental price in euros may be paid on arrival to save you transfer charges. Please contact the owners if you would like to discuss the possibily of paying in UK pounds.
The property is to be left as clean and tidy as when you arrive. Any additional cleaning fees will be deducted from the security deposit. We do offer a clean option. This is 50 Euros. Please notify us if you wish to take this up.
Small dogs under 10 kilos are welcome. 5 euros per night.
Changeover Day:
Changeover day is usually Saturday, but this is negotiable out of high season. The cottage is available from 16.00 on the day of arrival and is to be vacated by 10.00 on the day of departure.
The cottage is called 'Chez Marthe' in respect of it's previous owner, Marthe, who we were very fond of. While it's been modernised we have kept it in the traditional style. There's a wood-burning stove, also convector heaters. Portable ventilating fans. This a 'no smoking' cottage, but you are welcome to smoke outside.
Cleaning / Towels / Linen /
Linen/towels by arrangement. 10€ for double bed and 5€ per single, towels inc. in linen price. Please bring your own beach towels.
