Local Attractions
A 20 minute drive up into the Montagne Noir and you’ll find numerous mountain lakes and woodlands which is great for swimming, watersports, mountain-biking and pony-treking.
The famous medieval 'Cité de Carcassonne' is of course an unforgettable visit, but there are also many other 'Cathar' castles to explore off the beaten track, sometimes at vertiginous heights, and a wealth of local history to absorb. The Canal du Midi weaves its way through the valley and you may like to hire a boat for a day to fully enjoy it.
The mediterranean beaches are an hours drive, as is Toulouse in the opposite direction (famous architecture, shopping centers and aerospatial museum). Being 10 minutes from the auto-route exit also means that Spain is an accessible day trip.
Many of the local restaurants here serve the regional dishes of Cassoulet and Confit de Canard, with the delicious local wines from the Corbières, Minervois, Malpère and Fitou vineyards. We've compiled our own restaurant guide for our more gastonomique guests and are pleased to help you with restaurant bookings or any specific requests you may have.
