As we are keen walkers, we decided to book a late vacation in this beautiful part of France when the sun would be less fierce. The weather was perfect for us - blue skies and lots of sunshine with temperatures in the very high twenties. We also managed to swim most days!
There are so many walks in the area - the owners leave walking maps for guests and we made very good use of these.
Being able to buy everything we needed from the local village was a joy - it provides for all your daily living needs. A lazy stroll to do some shopping, followed by a coffee at the Bar des Sports to watch the world go by....How easy it was to establish this habit!
The evenings were spent exploring the local restaurants - of which there are many - and enjoying the local wines. Just perfect.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return in 2013.
This holiday was everything we hoped for: total relaxation with peace and quiet in abundance. A much needed contrast to our busy city lives. St Amand is a beautiful, well appointed house, in a stunning area. All amenities are just a lazy fifteen minute walk away in the village - butcher, bakers, grocery store, bank, restaurants. We shopped each day in the village, venturing to the weekly market in Vaison la Romaine early on a Tuesday morning. We spent most of our days walking or cycling in the cool of the morning and then swimming in the very inviting pool on our return home. Lazy lunches were eaten on the terrace under the vines and the afternoons slipped by - siestas became a big part of our after lunch routine!
Definitely a place to recommend.
We stayed in this wonderful house for 2 weeks in July/August and had a truly idyllic holiday.
The house is charming and very well equipped. The kitchen is lovely and easy to work in. The bedrooms are spacious and the bedlinen luxurious. There are two comfortable living rooms in the house, but we hardly used them as we were outside most of the time. The barbecue area is great and was used very frequently, and the outdoor kitchen area made it very easy.
The outdoor areas of the house are just magnificent and have the most fantastic view of Sablet. This is where we spent most of our time, in the outdoor dining area, enjoying the view, the local wine and food. In the day it is shady and cool, and at night it is atmospheric; with pretty outdoor lights and Sablet lit beautifully......sigh.
Our daughters (14 and 11) both had a friend to stay and they spent most of their time in the swimming pool. They also appreciated the short walk into Sablet where they would frequently go (alone) to eat Crepe (great little restaurant) or to just have a bottle of Coca Cola at the bar. They would also walk in to buy our morning Croissant.
My husband and I cycled some mornings, mostly in the Dentilles. Cycling here is a real joy!
We shopped in the village for most of our meals. The Bakery and Butcher are both excellent. Vaison market is fantastic for food too.
I cannot recommend this property highly enough, it was just paradise. It was the perfect place to enjoy a family holiday in very special surroundings.
We had the most amazing, relaxing stay at St Amand. We fell in love with the house and the village of Sablet.
Over the years, we have rented many different houses in Provence, but this is the house we will return to. It is beautifully cared for by the owners and so well equipped.
Our plan was to explore the area, and while we did a little bit of exploring, we found ourselves spending more and more time simply relaxing by the inviting swimming pool or under the shade of the terrace.
It really is the most peaceful place with stunning views of Sablet from the terrace. The perfect place to sit with a chilled glass of wine and contemplate life!!
We enjoyed our trips to the local markets with their vast choice of fresh produce - we wanted to buy it all! And of course our excursions to local vineyards to taste and buy wine were fun.
Our holiday seemed to flash by, we wish we could have stayed longer.
But we will be back......
We stayed here for a week and the description and photos don't do justice to the beauty and seclusion of this property.
The owner provided a very welcome goody back when we checked-in, ensuring we had wine a-plenty to start our holiday in style. The house was immaculate, spacious and very charming and we enjoyed both relaxing on the terrace and cooling off in the pool. We cooked many meals in the kitchen and enjoyed the fabulous view of Sablet from the terrace in the evening.
The house is an easy 15-min walk from Sablet on a very quiet lane, ensuring peace and solitude whilst also allowing easy access to the village for morning pastries and evening beers at the Bar Des Sports.
We enjoyed a fabulous week at this house and would not hesitate to book again. The owners and their local assistants were extremely helpful and the house lived up to our every expectation.
Also, please book a wine tour with Olivier, who is both very knowledgeable and an immaculate host for the day.
Chapeau!
The pictures and description on the web do not even come close to doing this house justice. It is a wonderful, spacious house in a very private setting in the middle of vineyards, off a tiny road just outside of Sablet. With a pool and multiple outdoor seating/dining areas (protected from the sun), it is perfect for outdoor living. The built-in and covered barbecue area will have you cooking and eating all your meals outside. There are two bedrooms upstairs and two bedrooms downstairs, with full bathrooms on both floors. There are large living rooms on both floors and there is plenty of room to spread out, although we spent almost all of our time outdoors. The kitchen is completely equipped with stove, oven, microwave/oven, 2 refrigerators, dishwasher, clothes washing machine, etc. There is WiFi but no TV. We were two couples, and the house was perfect for us, but it could easily accomodate 4 couples or two couples with children, as long as you didn't mind sharing bathrooms. There is no clothes dryer, but there is a clothesline out back and clothes dry very quickly in the sun. The property is very well maintained and the local English couple who look after it are extremely nice and helpful. Dealing with the (English) owners was a pleasure. Language is not a problem as everyone (pool guy, gardener, etc.) all seem to be English! There were lots of maps, brochures, etc. in the house for the area, there was a very detailed "instruction" book for the house that covered just about every topic, and the comfortably furnished upstairs living room has a very large selection of books.
The pretty town of Sablet is an easy walk away, and it has everything you need...2 boulangerie/patisseries, a small grocery store, a bank, a butcher, a pharmacie, a tourist office/wine store, several café/pizza places and a really excellent Michelin ranked restaurant. The towns of Gigondas, Séguret, Vacqueras, and Beaumes de Venise, with good food and wine are only a few kilometers away, and Vaison-la-Romaine, the nearest "big" town is only 11k away.
This is a perfect house to use as a base for hiking and biking...there are a number of marked hikes and bike rides that run right through Sablet... a perfect base for touring around the area, and a perfect base for doing nothing but sitting quietly by the pool and reading a book. The view of Sablet from the dining table under the arbor at sunset is quite spectacular. The house is hard to beat. I recommend it highly.
We spent a fantastic fortnight at this lovely villa. The views of Sablet from this secluded spot are wonderful, not to mention the beautiful sunsets we were treated to. Days were mainly spent walking to Sablet for fresh bread and patisserie in the mornings, lots of time in and out of the pool in the afternoon and leisurely BBQ's in the evening, making use of the outdoor kitchen area (perhaps some wine tasting in one of the plethora of local vineyards thrown in for good measure!). The villa was spotless and had everything we needed. There's lots of nice walks from the villa and beautiful drives nearby including Mont Ventoux. A thoroughly relaxing holiday had by all.
We had the most relaxing holiday staying at this wonderful house. We were able to relax from the moment we arrived. You feel as if you are staying in your best friend's house as the owners make you feel so welcome! St Amand is beautiful. The setting is breathtaking, with stunning views across the vineyards and towards Sablet. There is so much to do in the area: walking, cycling, cookery schools, wine tours. We did it all! We were a family of eight – three generations together. The house and garden provided lots of space for all of us to find our own private patch if we needed it. We quickly established a morning ritual of taking a lazy walk into the village of Sablet where we bought the breakfast croissants from one of the bakers, of which there were two, and provisions for the day from the small, well stocked local general store. Our time here flew by. It was so difficult to pack our bags and head back home. We have already rebooked for 2013 - what a gem this place is!
My husband and I live in Sydney and we booked this fantastic house so that our three children and their partners, all living in Europe, could meet with us for a family holiday. The house was perfect, beautifully clean and so well equipped. We all fell in love with the area and the house. We did a wine tour and a cookery school - all information being provided by the owner, Rosie, who was very helpful. Most of our days were spent relaxing in the garden, by the pool - although our two sons did hire bikes and they managed to cycle up Mont Ventoux! Not for the faint hearted! We enjoyed many a feast of lovely fresh local food and wine for lunch and dinner. We highly recommend staying in this lovely house - it really is nestled among the vineyards with the most amazing views of the village of Sablet. Many happy memories will stay with us of our holiday here and we look forward to our next visit.
What a find, this charming villa is nestled amongst vineyards, out of sight and very secluded. And that is not all: it has what we have named, the million dollar view of the village of Sablet. The scenery is stunning, day or night, it is something of dreams. This beautiful villa has plenty of room and from what we have seen in the area this looks to be the best (our children said this was the most luxurious villa they have ever stayed in). There are a few nearby restaurants a short walking distance away, just in case you can pull yourself away from a hard days' work at the pool. There is a fabulous BBQ corner and a wonderful well-stocked kitchen, but if that seems like hard work, the owners had kindly left information and recommendations of eateries in the area. One of many lovely little touches that make a world of difference.
And just in case the mood takes you, the famous town of Vaison-la-Romaine is a short car ride away and the Tuesday market was thoroughly enjoyable with the feel, smell and colour of Provence. And then of course there are the impressionist lavender fields of the north. And just so much more......Cookery classes with chef Johannes Sailer at Les Abeilles, a visit to Gordes for lunch, a walk up to the Dentelles de Montmirail, wine tasting in Gigondas.
The place was very clean and spotless. Very welcoming. The beds and bed linen were absolute heaven, great to fall into after a hard day on the sun lounges.
The owners were very good at communicating with us, as we were quite a hard bunch to accommodate, lots of queries and questions which they answered immediately.
Many thanks to Rosie and Mike for all their help and advise, nothing was too much trouble for them. We loved their villa and have already booked for 2012!
What a fabulous holiday, what a fabulous villa!
