Rayons de Soleil is a converted wine maker’s house dating back at least 100 years.
The accommodation is all on the first floor, and the open plan living space comprises:
- a LARGE SITTING AREA with hi-fi and a well-stocked library
- a MEZZANINE with TV/DVD
- KITCHEN and DINING AREA on a lower level opening onto:
- a LARGE, SUNNY TERRACE
- a completely renovated BATHROOM with retro-style shower, large freestanding bath and heated towel rail
- 4 DOUBLE BEDROOMS:
BEDROOM 1 with en suite shower room has 2 European size twin beds (2m) which fit together into a super kingsize bed;
BEDROOM 2 has a double bed, wash basin, and opens onto its own terrace;
BEDROOM 3 has a double bed;
BEDROOM 4 off the mezzanine is also a double room, but is more suitable for children over 5, because of its reduced head-height.
In summer 2015 we will be launching a sports room with gym equipment.
The house is situated in Capestang old town, and is within easy walking distance of all main amenities.
Capestang was an important town in the Middle Ages, partly owing to the natural salt deposits in the lake, and was home to the Archbishop of Narbonne in the summer. Its position and port on a bend in the Canal du Midi also ensures its significance as a major tourist attraction.
The town is ideally situated as a centre for exploring Languedoc Roussillon, in particular the départements of Hérault and Aude, which offer a multitude of holiday pursuits for every age and taste.
A 40 km stretch of sandy Mediterranean coastline offering a range of different types of beach is within 25 to 45 minutes’ drive. All water sports - wind surfing, kite surfing, jet skiing - as well as sand yachting are catered for in the Narbonne area.
Kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, canyoning, pot holing, canal boating, cycling, riding and hiking are some of the other outdoor activities available.
There are many locations for river bathing in the River Orb, with or without a beach, and several lakes in the region for swimming, sailing or windsurfing.
Languedoc has a rich history. The medieval period of the 10th and 11th centuries is the most significant in the area’s heritage, and has left many imposing castles and ruins, often perched high on rocky outcrops surrounded by the most dramatic scenery.
There is a strong Catalan influence on this region of southern France, which can be seen in some of the architecture and street scenery in Narbonne, the one-time capital of Languedoc.
Virtually every town or village has a local market once or twice a week. Here you can buy fresh, locally-grown fruit and vegetables, regional cheeses and meats. There are many olive growers in the region who supply locally-produced olive oil.
A meal in the Languedoc wouldn’t be complete without a glass of fine local wine. There are scores of vineyards to visit. Most vignerons are happy to let you sample their wines, which are widely acknowledged to be some of the best in France.
