Very excited to return to Maison des Calanches. Our last visit was almost exactly two years ago and wow the house remains spotless, easy to live in and the weather was even better this time. We love the local village bar La Voute and the lady there was equally welcoming as we lounged every evening before dinner. The Corsican speaking elderly card players in the bar were a floorshow we couldn't have paid for! The red kites came even nearer to us as we sat on the balcony and we wondered if they were tempted by our meal! Escaping from our "wired world" was a welcome relief and enabled us to relax fully. We'll be back.

My wife and I spent a week at this lovely hilltop house exploring the Balagne region of the north west. The countryside, coastline, wildlife and local cultures were all beautiful. You really couldn't ask for a finer view to open the bedroom window to in the morning or watch the sun set over the distant hills with a glass of wine in the evening!

The house was very well equipped and exactly as our hosts have described in the summary and detail. They were also very helpful with ideas and suggestions before we arrived.

We particularly wanted to explore the numerous hilltop towns and villages on the artisans trail as well as visit the wonderful beaches along the coast. Be prepared to undertake some challenging drives around narrow winding country roads to do the same - but it's well worth it.

We tended to eat in most of the week as there is only one good restaurant in walking distance (the hotel in the square). We bought our produce from various small shops/roadside vendors/supermarkets on the coast and cooked or barbequed before eating on the balcony with the fantastic views.

We would recommend this property to anyone wanting a week away from the rat race looking to sample a traditional rural culture and way of life.

The house is in a stunningly lovely location on the edge of a small mountain village with views over a wide valley to a lake and more mountains beyond. House very comfortatable with a myriad choices of terraces and balconies to sit out on at different times of the day, when we were there we moved from shade to shade through the afternoon into the evening. The beaches, some 30 minutes down the mountain, are fantastic, clean white sand and crystal clear water, great food and fabulous wine, no wonder we have already booked again for next year. Thanks to the owners for providing a wonderful place to experience the lovely island of Corsica.
