As a couple travelling from Australia this place appealed to us because it was in a village setting and quiet.First of all you would need a car here as there are no shops in the village. If you have bikes it is the perfect place to ride the countryside.
Stuart and Jules were just lovely, helpful in every way but left us to ourselves.
The little barn was beautiful, the beds comfortable, lots of living space, the best equipped kitchen i have ever seen in a holiday home.
In the evenings we enjoyed cooking and sitting in our own private walled garden.
From here we enjoyed day trips to many interesting towns. To name a few we visited Auxerre,Tonnerre, Semur-en Auxois and many lovely villages Epoisses and the beautiful city of Beaune.
There are three different canal bike paths within this region. We rode each of them and bike hire was at main tourist offices in Montbard and Pouilly-en-Auxois etc.
We can highly recommend this place to stay .It is THE best gite we have ever stayed in.
We stayed for a week and loved every moment. Stuart and Jules were excellent hosts. The gite is larger than the pictures show, extremely well outfitted with everything needed in the kitchen. The lounge are is very comfortable and English language TV and good WiFi is provided. The private garden is a delight. All in all, one of the best gites we have ever stayed in
We stayed at the little barn for 4 days in July, and couldn't have hoped for anything more from our stay. The barn was better equipped than my own house! I would agree with another reviewer and it looks more stunning in real life. The full kitchen was great – we made use of this for making picnics to take on our days out. The garden area was lovely, and we sat out every night of our trip, with some tasty cheeses and wine, listening to the silence. The sky is also amazingly dark so you get great opportunities to see some stars. The way that the barn is organized was great too, very private, but the owners just there if you do need anything.
Stuart and Jules were very welcoming, and have us lots of tips of where to go, and markets to visit, and a great book on cycling so let them know what you like to do and I am sure they will have some good tips. There is also a very detailed book in the barn with recommendations of restaurants and things to see. There was also a useful stack of leaflets, which is so handy for taking before you head off to places. Also a novelty was the bread van who passes by on a Sunday morning, around 9:45 am, where you can buy your morning croissants and baguettes!
The barn is in a great location, between the wine regions of Chablis and the Cote du Beaune & Cote du Nuit. There were lots of other pretty small towns along the journeys, so got to see some other more rustic towns such as Epoisse and Auxerre. The region is great for cycling - we took bikes, and cycled some of the burgundy canal, watching some canal boats navigating the locks - and through the vineyards between Beaune, and Pommard (though if it is warm, take lots of water as it is very exposed).
In summary I would say this is the perfect place to stay! We didn’t explore nearly enough of the area, and will definitely recommend the barn to friends, or most likely visit again.
We are a mature couple who stayed at The Little Barn in July 2015.
The accommodation was spotlessly clean and very well-presented. The bed was comfortable and the shower nice and powerful. The kitchen had a good range of crockery, cutlery, pans, utensils, etc. and the wi-fi worked well throughout our stay.
Stewart and Jules live alongside and were unobtrusive but very friendly and welcoming. Stewart had answered all my questions and communicated promptly by email during the enquiry and booking process.
The Little Barn is in a good location for visiting attractions such as Fontenay Abbey, nearby chateaux and attractive mediaeval towns. Maps, guidebooks and leaflets are provided in abundance in the property.
All in all, a great place to stay, and we would have been happy to stay longer.
If you have ever felt that the reality of a holiday let doesn't quite match the description - then this is for you. Quiet village, wonderful countryside, easy access to facilties, and plenty of towns or cities if you want them. Highlights for us - and the dog - must be the walks along the Burgundy Canal, Fontenay Abbey - yes, the dog went round too! - and all the small towns like Noyers, Chablis and Flavigny. Stuart & Jules were excellent hosts. Bottom line - thoroughly recommended.
My wife and I have stayed at many different agriturismos and gites, and while we have never been disappointed, we have never been so positively overwhelmed as we have in Viserny. Jules and Stewart were most gracious hosts, discreetly remaining in the background, but immediately there when we needed them (which we did after we had pressed the wrong button on the TV remote control; Stewart rode to the rescue). The gite is absolutely beautiful: spacious, clean, well-maintained, and equipped with everything one could wish for. And then there is the garden: just right for a cool glass of Burgundy wine after a strenuous day of sightseeing and for relaxing as the sun sets.
Would we recommend this gite to other people? We already have! Though it may not be in the immediate vicinity of the larger towns such as Dijon or Auxerre, it is conveniently half-way between the two. And nearby are other gems such as Flavigny, Semur-en-Auxois, Chablis, and Chatillon-sur-Seine, to name but a few. We spent a wonderful two weeks there, and anyone who wishes to explore Burgundy should consider making Viserny their headquarters.

My husband and I spent a relaxing week at this lovely cottage. Our previous week entailed driving from place to place, so it was nice to be in one location for the week. The cottage was immaculate and the kitchen well equipped. It was an easy drive to the grocery store in Semur-en-Auxois, and a real pleasure to cook in the kitchen. The bed was comfortable and the shower was great. It was also very nice to have a washing machine, and our clothes dried very quickly hung outside.
Stuart and Jules were very gracious and a pleasure to meet. Jules gave us some runner beans from her garden and they were wonderful- thanks Jules! They were the perfect hosts- there if you needed them, but not intrusive. We spent our days exploring the Burgundy countryside and our evenings at the cottage with dinner and wine.
We could not have asked for a better stay. The accommodations were perfect, the hosts warm and welcoming, the area lovely for exploring. Our only regret was that we did not have our bicycles- the roads in Burgundy are perfect for cycling- you could ride all day from village to village over excellent roads with no traffic. If you are looking for a quiet and very comfortable gite, we highly recommend staying here!
My wife and I have stayed in many self-catering gites over the past several years and The Little Barn is one of the very best. The gite was lived in by the owners while their house was being refurbished and, consequently, it is comfortably furnished and well equipped with everything needed for an enjoyable holiday. Stuart and Jules are friendly and helpful and have stocked the gite with soaps, paper towels, trash bags, tissues, etc. All you need to provide is the food and drink.
There are no shops in the village of Viserny, but at least two large supermarkets nearby in Semur-en-Auxios. There are lots of pretty medieval towns and villages to visit in the region and the owners have provided guidebooks and maps for touring in the car or for hiking. For hot summer days, there are a couple of lakes in the area where swimming is possible - one commercialized, but free and the other is for "wild" swimming and a nice trail around the lake.
The gite is only a couple of years old and was immaculately clean when we arrived. The gite has an open floor plan with cathedral ceiling, French doors and lots of windows to provide a bright and airy living space. The garden and parking area are enclosed and gated. The owners park and access their house outside the “enclosure”, so the gite and garden are very private, yet the owners are right at hand if you have any questions. The location is very quiet with no noise from neighbors and minimal traffic on the road outside the gite. WiFi connectivity was good and reliable throughout our stay.
We recommend this gite for anyone interested in self-catering accommodations in the Burgundy/Bourgogne area - we have already booked the gite again for next year.
